THE STORY
A Eulogy for Jane Doe began with the belongings of unidentified women—small traces of lives whose stories remain unknown. Those objects became illustrations. The illustrations became poems. And together, they became an act of honoring.
Now the project is growing again.
Ten new illustrations are currently being created, with new monologue poems to follow. The next phase will invite musicians to write compositions inspired by the writings and illustrations, followed by dancers whose choreographies will be inspired by the music. These works will culminate in a multidisciplinary performance, bringing all artists into conversation and collective remembrance and giving a new layer of presence, physicality, and voice to the women. Recordings of the music, dance, and performance will be made available for educators, activists, and other artists.

The work is already growing.
Over the past two and a half years, more than 300 poems, letters, and other creative works have been created by University of Arizona students in response to the project. Together with the commissioned artwork and poetry, these pieces have become part of the Living Eulogy. Being part of and witnessing this project isn’t just about contributing to an evolving archive, it is about becoming part of a collective voice, a collective call, to honor all women and girls whose lives, identities, and memories have been obscured or lost through violence.
